The Castelsaraceno Study Site is situated in the south-west of Basilicata region, Southern Italy. Removal of natural vegetation and deforestation for agricultural expansionis a long standing process and poor management of common land and inadequate enforcement of grazing regulations are important human-induced drivers of degradation.
