The place where an organism (plant or animal) or a community lives (survives and reproduces), i.e. where its environmental requirements (ecological niche) are fully or partially met.
Characterizes the different paths followed by the system during degradation and recovery. Hysteresis makes the recovery of degraded ecosystem difficult (from Kéfi 2008, Ph.D. Thesis, p.15).
